Writing Lab

In my writing lab class, we were learning about voice in writing. Voice is just how your personal writing style comes across. We had to choose between a range of topics for example, our views on first impressions, which is what I chose. The day we had to write the assignment was exactly the day after I had just had a really difficult breakup with my long-term boyfriend. Because it was a personal voice assignment and I had a lot bottled up, emotionally, I really let it all out in the assignment. My own personal voice on how first impressions, although they are important, can always change. Not only did the assignment get a good grade but it allowed me to vent and let out my feelings. It was one of the first assignments that I had ever put tons of emotion into and it turned out to be one of my best pieces.

At times it seemed as if I was ranting, however, depending on whatever subject you are writing about, ranting can be a good thing. In the future, being able to better express my emotions be it in writing or not, will really help me. It helps to not keep things all bottled up inside. Professionally, as a Journalist, being able to put my own emotion and voice into a piece of writing is what will make me unique and stand out to a publication. All in all, not only did the actual assignment, putting your own voice into writing, help me but so did the subject an manner in which I wrote it.
