Confidence

Not many people will cross-dress as a famous pop singer, dance, and lip synch in front of a live audience but for me, it was one of my proudest moments in high school. My freshman year of high school, I was lucky enough to be in theatre class for all three trimesters of the year. The third trimester class was by far one of the smallest, but we had the fabulous idea of putting on a variety show. We wrote and produced our own sketches, acted, and put everything together to make it great. One of the things we did was we had a “musical guest” come at the end of the show for a performance. This was the time when Justin Beiber was just emerging and becoming a sensation so who better for one of us to impersonate? There were not many people in the class to begin with and even fewer who would be willing to get up, dance and lip sync live. To me, it seemed like such a great and fun thing to do, so I was very eager to do it. The night of the show was towards the beginning of summer and it was by far one of the hottest days I’ve ever experienced at school and was even hotter on stage and back stage. However, despite the heat I put on the sweatshirt, sneakers, wig, and hat and went up on stage and danced my heart out as Justin Beiber. People absolutely loved it and it really did show I was confident in myself. I made myself proud more than anything as I knew that if I could get up and do that then there was no need to ever not be confident. Ever since then, I have been more confident in myself and it’s one of the best feelings ever. Being confident is one thing that other people and employers everywhere look for. If you are not confident in your work, nobody else is going to be either. As a Journalist, you have to be confident in your writing and make it your own. Journalists, to me, have always seemed to have a sense of fearlessness and that’s one of the reasons I want to go into that field so badly. Also, personally, being confident in yourself is something people feed off of. Before things such as being Justin Beiber, I was not the most confident person and sometimes I still do struggle with self-consciousness, but I just think back to all of the great things I’ve done and I’m proud.
