Mathematics

1. Trigonometry Unit Circle

2. Calculus Assignment

Math has always been one of my more challenging areas to study as I am more of an artistic, language arts type of person. However, I have managed over the years to get work done and am currently taking Calculus. My junior year, I was in Trigonometry and Pre Calculus within the same trimester and I will admit, having two math classes a day was quite a challenge. Despite being challenged in the subject, Trigonometry and Pre Calc ended up overlapping and they eventually ended up helping each other. One thing that was the best thing I have ever learned and understood was the unit circle which broke down the radius of a circle in radians and degrees. It was definitely a challenge in order to get it down so that I could use it to better understand problems but once I got it, it was light a light bulb came on and off I went. Although the unit circle may come easy to others it was a challenge for me and taught me a lot.

As Calculus is my senior math class, I will say that some of my hardest work has gone into the assignments in that class. It is so challenging for me and sometimes even frustrating. However, when I do understand something I can take it, run with it and finish the assignment without any trouble. Even if I do have a little trouble, I work extra hard to make sure I understand and not turn in an unfinished assignment. Calculus, at first looked like a bunch of gibberish to me but after doing assignment after assignment, I’ve realized that it is not as hard as people make it out to be.

Both of these assignments in math made me a better student as it helped improve my study skills and my work ethic. In years past, if I did not understand a topic in math class, I would just not even finish the assignment and my grades would take a hit simply because I was not working hard enough. Calculus has made me work harder for my grades and finishing assignments is definitely crucial for that. In Trigonometry, learning the unit circle helped to teach me to better study for math-related subjects. In the professional side of Journalism, getting your work done and being able to buckle down and understand what needs to be done is so important with all of the deadlines involved. In my personal life, hard work and dedication is what makes or breaks people. It determines their commitments to others and other things and all in all hard work and perseverance is what will pay off in the long run.
