TC09: Make and/or follow a set of rules and procedures

This school year, I decided to play on the powder-puff football team.  I did not play last year and I regretted it so this year, in an attempt to do as much as I can senior year, I decided to play.  Being able to follow a set of specific rules, such as the ones involved in powder-puff is a great skill to have now and for the future.  It may just be a football game with a bunch of girls to other people but it really is a learning experience.

There are many rules and regulations that go into the game.  Things as simple as how to play the game or things that are considered cheating, such as tying the flags to your waist so that they cannot be pulled off are listed in the packet you receive in order to play.  For safety and liability reasons, you have to sign saying that you will follow all the rules and regulations otherwise you cannot play.  If someone does not follow the rules, they will no longer be able to play just because it is such a high-contact, dangerous activity.  Last year, a lot of the rules were broken and the game turned out to be a really unsafe environment, so this year following the rules and regulations was essential otherwise powder-puff would be a thing of the past.  Before the game I would study up on the rules packet just to make sure that I would do nothing wrong in the game and jeopardize it for the team.

In the journalism field, it is absolutely crucial to follow the rules and regulations otherwise, not only is your journalistic credibility ruined but you could potentially ruin the credibility of the publication you are working for.  If I were to lie or fabricate a story, my job would be in jeopardy.  Just like in any field you go into, Journalism has many, if not more, rules that need to be adhered to otherwise I would be out of the job.

In my own, personal life there are rules that need to be followed all the time.  Things such as codes of conduct, behavior in public places such as no smoking, and even school dress codes.  Thankfully, I have the skills and the mind set to be the type of person that does follow rules because I believe that that is what is right.  If you don’t follow rules then things get messy, taken away, or even ruined because “one bad apple ruins the bunch” and that apple is and will never be me.
